Visit to the Fallas of Valencia with Virtual Reality

Thanks to Virtual Reality, visitors to the El Saler Shopping Center have been able to have a completely immersive Virtual Reality experience of the famous Fallas of the Valencian Community.

Las Fallas are a celebration that takes place from March 15 to 19 with a tradition rooted in the Spanish city of Valencia and different populations of the Valencian Community. Officially they begin on the last Sunday of February with the act of the Crida (“call”). The origin of the fallas dates back to the ancient tradition of the city’s carpenters. Thus in the eighteenth century, the Fallas were reduced to useless junk together with wooden devices that were used to raise the lamps that illuminated the city in the winter months. Little by little, it was consolidated as a tradition, becoming monuments made by master craftsmen on the date of the Saint Joseph Festival, their patron. In November 2016, Unesco inscribed them on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In this case, the will of the El Saler Shopping Center is to promote itself in order to attract more customers and keep its own name high, drawing on the tradition of the Valencian Community. Las Fallas, one of the best known and most important festivals, was chosen in order to achieve the purpose. The main objective is to find a way to attract visitors using a tool that can bring together innovation and culture at the same time.

SOLUTION

To achieve the purpose, the project was carried out in collaboration with Rosebud creative agency, which has allowed to create the first experience of Cremá and Falla in virtual reality, with the El Saler Shopping Center on stage. Configured according to the services it provides, thus recreating 8 different animations. In the first, we have a monkey with some popcorn. For the second, a singing hamburger delights us, while in the third, a shoe draws a heart with its laces. Continuing, the fourth animation consists of a changing room and the fifth a pile of books fly out representing the bookstores inside the Saler. In the sixth animation a roller coaster of shopping carts runs through the entire fault ending in an ice cream forest as a stop. Also, a rocket flies non-stop for the seventh animation. Finally, a top hat kindly spits out products and products, like the eighth.

Thanks to VR technology, it is possible to have an immersive 360 ​​° experience that allows you to go beyond the limitations of reality. Through this project, regular and potential visitors will be more likely to visit the mall. In order to have an experience with a new technology, especially with animations that belong to the famous Fallas. This project guarantees an impression by customers of a shopping center attentive to traditions. Also that takes into account modern projects and technologies, proposing an innovative experience.

TECHNOLOGY

For this project we have opted for the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality device, which allows us to achieve the highest graphic quality since it works connected to a computer.

The Oculus Insight system works at room scale, allowing users to move around a real space while interacting with the application. The Rift S visor has five sensors to track movements, with a system that works from the inside out. Moreover the closest position tracking is enhanced to improve the sensation when grasping and pointing to objects in the game.

The Oculus Rift S also allows us to see the environment without having to remove our helmet.
